One-hundred and eighty-five former students of Dorchester High School attended
the all-high school reunion September 5, at Stetsonville Centennial Hall.
“The ladies of Stetsonville once again outdid themselves in preparing an
outstanding home-cooked meal,” said reunion chairman Jim Jantsch.
The main speaker was Ken Anderson, class of 1964, who did his “Mayberry Guru”
presentation, which highlights the good life that small towns provide. Anderson
made numerous comparisons between how people in Mayberry, NC, and Dorchester
live their lives, and how people in these communities care for and look out for
one another. When people need help, there is always someone there to provide
that help.
Anderson himself dresses up and plays the role of Barney Fife (Don Knotts), the
local constable of Mayberry RFD in the TV series, which aired in the 1960’s and
1970’s.
Former students were from the classed of 1941 though 1965. The 1941 graduate and
oldest member present was Arletta (Lindau) Goldamer. The oldest living graduate
of Dorchester High School was Dorothy (Herman) Hartman, who graduated in 1934
and was unable to attend.
The class of 1963 won the prize for having the most members of their class
present.
“Everyone has a good time and all expressed their desire to attend the next
reunion, which will be in the next two or three years,” Jantsch said.
