Zuelke, Leon A. ‘Lee’ (4 July 1932 - 29 November 2015) With Flag

Leon A. “Lee” Zuehlke, the great storyteller, 83, of Granton was born to eternal life and into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at House of the Dove, Marshfield.

Leon was born July 4, 1932, in Marshfield to Fred and Abbie (Lindow) Zuehlke and was the apple of his mother’s eye. He attended Maple Grove School for 8 years, Purdy School and Marshfield Senior High School, graduating in 1950. He first worked with his uncle, Charles Meissner, in plastering and concrete construction and then worked for Andy Gehl in piping. In 1952, he joined the U. S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Romulus, a repair ship, during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he worked in a shipyard in Algoma, then Maynard Steel in Milwaukee until returning home and working for Dairybelt Cheese and Skelgas. He retired from Land O’Lakes in Spencer after 38 years of service.

March 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Colleen C. Copet, and they were married for 63 years. Into this union three wonderful children were born: Sherry Lee (Steve) Shapiro of Bakersfield, CA, Terry Lee Zuehlke at home (a special needs child) and Sarah Lee (Jeff) Komis of Chili. He is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren: Nicholas Shapiro of Los Angeles, CA, Emma Shapiro of Westfield, NJ and Warren (Brandy) Komis of Phoenix; and one great-grandchild expected in April. He is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Carol Copet of Marshfield and Bonnie Miller of Bullhead City, AZ; many nieces and nephews; and his pals at home, Daisy and Mippy.

He was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, Loren and Agnes Copet.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Peter Ruggles officiating. Burial will take place in Lynn Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. The visitation will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in his name to the House of the Dove, Marshfield.

The family wishes to thank the staff at House of the Dove for the wonderful care that was extended to Leon.

We love you Dad. Fly, fly, fly away home. Spread your wings and fly. You’re free. Until we meet again, Mom, children and grandchildren .
