Albrecht, Rosella Magdaline (Schmitt) (12 MAR 1918 - 20 FEB 2010)

Rosella Magdaline Albrecht, 91, Athens, has gone to rest with the angels in paradise on Sat. February 20, 2010.

The funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. The Very Rev. Charles Hiebl will preside.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Athens. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Pallbearers are Rosella’s six grandsons, Steve and Scott Writz, Brian, Alan and Joe Wisniewski and Paul Reuter.

She was born March 12, 1918 to William and Clara (Auner) Schmitt in a log cabin North of Highway A on Meridian Road in the township of Halsey.

She was raised by her mother and grandfather after her father died when she was four. She and her siblings spent school months in Wausau and summers with grandfather Henry Schmitt, in rural Athens.

On October 12, 1937, she married Joseph Albrecht at St. Mary Catholic Church, Wausau. He survives.

Joe and Rosella celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in 2009 She and her husband spent most of their married life farming Joe’s family farm in the town of Halsey.

In 1984 they moved to Athens. Rosella was an active member of St. Anthony Parish, served as president of the PCCW for many years and was also a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters.

She enjoyed playing sheepshead, gardening and traveling.

In addition to her husband, Joe, Rosella is survived by six daughters, Rosemary (Dennis) Kraft and Judith Wisniewski, Wausau, Kathleen Writz, Marathon, Nancy (Marvin) Reuter, Athens, Diane (Chuck) Humpal, Cadott and Teresa Albrecht, Amherst, 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild, two sisters, Mable Rauen and Henrietta Gaulke, of Marywood Nursing Home in Wausau and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rosella was preceded in death by two brothers, infant Joseph and Sylvester "Paddy" Schmitt and two sisters, Viola Zinda and Loretta Neuens.

The family would like to extend a special ”thank you” to the staff of Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Colby and the visiting Ministry Hospice Care nurses for their care and compassion to Rosella as she lost her battle with cancer. The dedication to their profession is truly remarkable.
