Guard Unit to Leave For Camp McCoy (30 May 1974)

Members of the Detachment One, 106th Supply and Service Company, Wisconsin Army National Guard, Neillsville, are preparing to leave for their annual training at Camp McCoy during the period of May 30 to June 22.

The unit will depart in two increments, the first to depart Satruday morning, June 1 and train through June 15. This increment will consist of 30 men. PSG Frederick W. Kieser, unit administrative and supply technician, will be noncommissioned officer in charge. An advance detachment of 18 men will depart this (Thursday) morning to coordinate plans and get the area ready for the unit’s mission.

The main element of the unit, consisting of about 45 men, will leave Saturday morning, June 8, and remain at Camp McCoy until June 22.

The two-element concept is designed to provide continuity in training and in the performance of the unit’s mission. The first increment will assume responsibility from a unit at Camp McCoy and receive training in the task to be performed. During the second week, the unit will be there in its entirety and have sole responsibility for the performance of its mission. During the third week, members will in turn train a new unit to take over the mission.

The Neillsville unit is a detachment of the 106th Supply and Service Company which is located in Neillsville and Black River Falls. The Neillsville portion includes the supply Platoon, which will have the responsibility of providing food for about 7,000 men at Camp McCoy during its encampment period. The bakery section will provide fresh bread and rolls. The petroleum platoon provides gasoline, diesel fuel and other petroleum products to the units at camp at that time.

SSG Gary Johnson and SSG Ronald Ziegler will be the noncommissioned officers heading the supply platoon. SSG Terry Hauge and PSG Chester Diercks will be responsible for the petroleum platoon, and SSG DeWayne Dux will be in charge of the bakery section along with SGT Edward Strangfeld and SGT Joseph Kreitlow.
