Sherman, Irving E. (13 MAY 1901 – 28 OCT 1958)

Irving E. Sherman, son of the late Otis W. and Anna (Wierschem) Sherman, was born May 13, 1901 at Chili (Clark Co., Wis.). The family lived at Chili, Marshfield and Loyal before coming to Greenwood in 1906. He attended Greenwood grade schools and the Michigan State Auto School, and for the past 10 years has owned and operated Sherman Service Station on Highway 73 on North Main Street.

On April 4, 1937 he was married to Velma Hindal in Greenwood. She passed away on September 15, 1949.

Mr. Sherman was Fire Chief for a number of years, and at one time was Alderman of the Fourth Ward.

Mr. Sherman, who had suffered a heart ailment for some time, was found dead in bed at his home on Tuesday, October 28, 1958, where he has lived alone since the death of his wife. Robert Lulloff, Neillsville Clark Co. Coroner, said the death apparently resulted from a coronary attack and that no inquest would be held.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, and Forest Queen Royal Neighbor Camp.

A rosary service was held at the Hill Funeral home, Thursday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m.

A Requiem Mass was said on Friday, October 31 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev. Father Edward Hartung, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery beside his wife.

The pallbearers were Dr. John Smith, Albert Neuenfeldt, Mike Podobnik Jr., Robert Ramin, Ed Bogdonovich, and W.A. Stewart.

Irving is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Rossman, Owen, and Mrs. Hugo (Olive) Hoffman, Manitowoc.
