Smart, Merceda "Marcy" E. (Riehle) (19 AUG 1929 - 1 MAR 2016)

Merceda "Marcy" E. Smart, age 86, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2016 at the Colonial Center in Colby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Peter Manickam will officiate.

Interment will be held at a later date at the Abbotsford Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of service Tuesday at the church.

Her grandsons are given the honor to serve as pallbearers: Mark Smart, Scott Smart, Christopher Smart, Rick Ludwig, Jesse Staab, Derek Zier, Michael Grajek and Dallas Smart. Her granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers: Ashley Thorson and DeAnn Zier.

Marcy was born on August 19, 1929, the daughter of Leonard and Elizabeth (Salzmann) Riehle in Athens. She attended Athens School. On October 13, 1945 Marcy married the love of her life Lea Alfred Smart at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. They just recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Marcy enjoyed being a homemaker all her life and raising her children. She was very active with the St. Bernard's PCCW, and St.Dorothy's Circle. During her free time she enjoyed shooting pool, crocheting, playing cards, knitting, and making crafts. Most of all, Marcy loved it when her grandchildren would come to visit.

Marcy is survived by her husband: Lea; seven children: Calvin (Susan) of Crossville, TN; Larry of St. Petersburg, FL; Janice (Terry) Ludwig of West Bend; Diane Zier of Amherst; Carol (James) Stauner of Marshfield; Bernice Grajek of Las Vegas, NV; and Russell of West Allis; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

She is further survived by four brothers: Donald of Edgar, Leroy (Doreen) of Edgar, Clement of Abbotsford and Leonard (Karen) of Colby, and also a sister: Mary Jane Seliger of Edgar and many nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.

Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings: Loretta, Joseph, Wilford, and Elizabeth; two sons-in-law: Daniel Zier and Jeff Grajek.
