Vermaat, Donald “Don” R. Jr. (19 JUL 1951 - 7 MAR 2010)

Donald “Don” R. Vermaat Jr, age 58, of MCT #26 Medford, died on Sunday, March 7 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital where he had been taken earlier by helicopter.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 9, at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, with Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating.

Cremainal Inurnment will take place at a later date in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford.

Visitation will be at 4-7 P.M. Tuesday, March 9 at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford where there will be a 6:30 P.M. Prayer Service and also from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 10 at the Hemer Funeral Home, Medford.

Don was born on July 19, 1951 in Geneva, IL, to Donald R. (Bev) Vermaat Sr. of South Elgin, IL, and Caroline R. Schmidt, of Batavia, IL.

He was a graduate of St. Charles High School, St. Charles, IL.

On August 19, 1972, he married Debra Whildin. They later divorced. On May 19, 1979, he married to Susan Fettes. They later divorced.

After High School Don drove truck for Miller Transportation and RC Cola in Illinois until moving to the Medford Area in 1984. He then owned a beef farm in the Town of Little Black and hauled milk for Shotliff out of Dorchester for 9 years. Don then became an over the road truck driver for Prochnow out of Medford for around 15 years. He enjoyed carpentry work, he rebuilt tractors, enjoyed going to antique truck and tractor pulls and shows. He was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville.

He is survived by his parents, father Donald R. (Bev) Vermaat Sr. of South Elgin, IL and mother: Caroline R. Schmidt of Batavia, IL; his children, Donald Vermaat III of Portage, Susan Vermaat of Mount Prospect, IL, Jaime Vermaat of Fort McCoy, Jacob Vermaat of Medford and Pamela Vermaat of Medford; 8 grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Vermaat of St. Charles, IL, William (Misty) Vermaat of Arrow Smith, IL, John (Kathleen) Vermaat of Batavia, IL, Marianne Vermaat of Carol Stream, IL, Roseanne Vermaat of Batavia, IL, James Vermaat of DeKalb, IL and Margretanne Vermaat of Batavia, IL.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rylie Ann Vermaat on January 6, 2003.

In lieu of flowers, memorial’s can be made to Don’s family to be designated at a later date
