Bender, Roger L. (20 JAN 1939 – 13 APR 2016)
Roger L. Bender, 77, Loyal, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated. Burial followed in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Zais, Brady Zais, Matt Tellock, Roger Kadolph, Shane Kadolph and Jurg Grossenbacher. Military rites were conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175.

Roger Lee Bender was born on Jan. 20, 1939, in Granton, the son of Elmer and Agnes (nee Holnbach) Bender. He was raised on a farm and received his education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1957. He married Bonnie M. Lavene on May 28, 1966, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. They purchased his family farm east of Loyal and farmed until the time of his death. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a former member of the H&K Snowmobile Club. Roger had many interests, but especially enjoyed riding horses, hunting in the town of Sherwood, walking in the woods, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s school events, snowmobiling, going out to eat, and ice cream.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Bonnie, of Loyal; four children: Lee Bender of Loyal, Lori (Kevin) Zais of Spencer, Lynnette (Duane) Johnson of Colby, and Lychelle (Matt) Tellock of Loyal; six grandchildren: Heather and Brady Zais, Taylor and Devin Johnson, and Natasha and Sheila Tellock; two step-grandchildren: Brittany and Jason Johnson; one brother, Merlin (Caryl Jean) Bender of Marshfield; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Blane Bender.
