Attoe Honored (20th HS Musical Performance - 2016)
The cast and production crew gathered following the final performance of “My
Fair Lady” April 17 at the Neillsville High School (NHS) Auditorium.
Musical director Wendell Attoe was honored with a plaque from generations of NHS
students and a grateful community commemorating “his many years of service, your
steadfast dedication to the community and your unceasing efforts to share a love
of the performing arts.” This year’s wonderful musical was the 20th production
Attoe had directed. The remarkable list of performances includes “Pirates of
Penzance” (1988), “West Side Story” (1989), “Finnian’s Rainbow” (1990), “Grease”
(1991), “Me and My Girl” (1992), “Hello Dolly” (1993), “Fiddler on the Roof”
(1994), “Oklahoma” (1995), “Bye, Bye Birdie” (1996), “West Side Story” (1997),
“Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” (1998), “Guys and Dolls” (1999), “Music Man”
(200), “Me and My Girl” (2001), “My Fair Lady” (2002), “Guys and Dolls (2006),
“Hello Dolly” (2008), “Music Man” (2012), “Bye Bye Birdie” (2014), and this
year’ production of “My Fair Lady.” A tribute to music attributed to Plato is
inscribed on the plaque as follows: “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the
universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to
life and to everything.”(Contributed photos)
