THS Welcomes New Principal & Athletic Director (Hass - 2016)
Thorp School District Welcomes New High School Principal
Congratulations William Hass, for being hired on as the new High School
Principal and Athletic Director. As a fellow new member to the community, I
welcome you and look forward to seeing what you bring to this community and her
children.
William Hass was born in Antigo, Wisconsin. He is married to Mary Hass, who
worked at Advanced Physical Therapy in Shawano. On top of his new
responsibilities with the Thorp School District, William is also a proud
fulltime father of five children: Dustin, a football coach at Carthage
University; Zachary, who is in his last year of a Doctorate in Sports
Statistics; Emily, a 7th grade social studies teacher in Oshkosh; Milly, a
junior at Marquette University, pursuing a Bachelors degree in digital media;
and Hannah, a junior in high school who hopes to go to UW-Madison so that she
can become an astronaut.
As far as Mr. Hass’ education goes, he received his undergraduate degree from
UW-River Falls, a Master’s from UW-Platteville, and his principal’s license was
obtained online through Lamar University in Texas. With the above-mentioned
degrees, William pursued a career in education starting as a football coach and
athletic director. He quickly transitioned to a discipline officer, and finally
to principal. He partially credits his career to his wife’s influence, as her
father is a school superintendent.
Believe it or not, William does, in fact, manage to find time for a hobby or
two. In his free time, he likes to go out into nature, hunting, trout fishing,
playing golf, and cutting firewood for his parents. More recently he has taken
up an interest in learning to play Sheepshead.
He does not stop there either. In the past, he has worked with the Fellowship of
Christian Athletes, participated in his community on the library board, city
council, and local church boards, all things he says he is also interested in
doing again as opportunities arise in Thorp. When asked if he had anything to
say to the people Thorp he said this: “I look forward to working with the people
of Thorp. Everyone I have had the chance to meet has been very welcoming and
respectful. The kids have been great, and I can’t wait to start working with
them this school year.”
As a fellow recent transplant to this community, I would like to say welcome to
Thorp William Hass, and I look forward to working with you on projects with the
Courier.
