Bradley Pederson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pederson, R.F.D. 1, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), has been selected as a National Merit Scholarship winner.

Bradley, a senior at Loyal High School, was notified of his selection on May 5, 1971 by the National Merit Scholarship selection committee.

In order to qualify for a scholarship, a student must complete a number of steps. Midway through his junior year, a student takes a qualifying test. If he has completed this part of the qualification successfully, he will be contacted in the autumn of his senior year, indicating his becoming a semi-finalist. After become a semi-finalist, a student must substantiate his score by taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The student must also submit a personal hisotray, be endorsed by his high school, and also receives a recommendation from his school.

Upon meeting these standards, the selection committee will notify the student as to his becoming a finalist. From these finalists, approximately one-third of the student receive one of the three scholarships offered.

The scholarship which Bradley received was the four-year college sponsored scholarship. These scholarships are based on need and range from $100 - $1,5000 per year. They are renewable annually if a high grade point is maintained.

Bradley as been an active number in many school activities. They include forensics, history club, and Spanish Club. Being an avid sports spectator has also taken up much of Brad;s time. In honors, Bradley has also made the grade. Some of the awards which Bradley has received are the Baasch and Lomb Science Award for outstanding achievement in science, American Legion Scholastic award,a nd also the award for the best average for Spanish I and II.

During Bradley's leisure time, he enjoys reading and listening to country music. He also manages Haxy Lawn farm, where he milks a pure bred herd of registered Jersey cows which received top honors for Wisconsin.

After graduating from high school, Bradley plans to attend Michigan State University, East Lansing, where he will major in veterinary medicine.
