Virnig, Loren C. (19 September 1938 - 16 August 2016) With Flag

Loren C. Virnig, 77, Marshfield died peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at his home.

Loren was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Medford to Adrian and Rose (Kellnhofer) Virnig and as a 1956 graduate of Granton High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the 32nd Division 128th Infantry from October 1961 until his honorable discharge in February 1965.

He had owned his own gas and fuel business in Granton and later owned and operated his own semi for a time. He then became employed in the maintenance department at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 30 years until his retirement.

Loren loved to tinker and took great pride in fixing things, no matter how big or small.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; and children: Ann Marie Virnig, Daniel (Carrie) Virnig, Constance Virnig, and Renee (Greg) Virnig. He is also survived by a sister, Kathryn Reigel; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law’ numerous nieces and nephews; and a special nephew and caretaker, Patrick. He is further survived by Poppy’s girls and grandchildren by heart.

He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers: Denis and Roman Virnig.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54. The visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Rembs Funeral Home.

We wish to thank all the special angels that helped us through Loren’s care, including the oncology staff, palliative care, hospice, home hospice staff and neighbors and friends.
