Ackerman, Mrs. Charles (Mary Elizabeth) (13 OCT 1834 – 25 MAR 1919)

On Tuesday evening of last week Mrs. Chas. Ackerman died at her home west of this city and her passing marks the death of a lady who has been prominent in local and neighborhood affairs in lower Clark County since 1864. She was born Mary Elizabeth Condit at West Bloomfield, N.J., on October 13, 1834. She came with her parents to Dodge County, Wisconsin, in 1849. She was united in marriage to Charles Ackerman on Jan. 1, 1857, and they moved to Neillsville Nov. 1, 1864. The following spring they moved onto the farm which has ever since been their home. Five children were born to them—Cecil, Isabel, Edith, Frederick and Cora. Mrs. Ackerman is survived by her husband and three children, Cecil of Spokane, Mrs. Henry Garvin of Cathay, N.B., and Fred, who lives on the home place. Also by five sisters and one brother of Pierce County, Wisconsin, and one brother in Washington. Twelve grandchildren also survive her.

Mrs. Ackerman was a woman of exceptional merit for she was possessed of many splendid traits of character which were evident on all occasions. She lived a good life and her memory will remain a pleasant one to all her many friends. The funeral was held on Friday, services being conducted by Rev. Longenecker in the afternoon at the Congregational Church. Mrs. John Hamilton and Mrs. Sylvester Cook of Spring Valley, sisters of Mrs. Ackerman, were here for the funeral.
