Cypher, John A. (25 JUL 1926 - 4 OCT 2016)

John A. Cypher, age 90, of the Township of Little Black, passed away on Tuesday, October 4 at Aspirus Care & Rehab, Medford where he had resided for the past 2 weeks.

Memorial services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, October 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville, with Father Michael Hayden officiating.

Interment of his cremated remains will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford where there will also be military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.

Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Saturday, October 15.

John was born on July 25, 1926, at Medford, to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Retterath) Cypher.

He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, Medford, and was married April 27, 1968 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford to Margaret Ann Schaefer, who survives.

John was a US Army veteran of WW II having served from 1944-1946. He served in the Enlisted Reserves Corps from 1946-1949. After the military, he worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford for 23 years and also did woods work. He worked at the Town of Little Black recycling center and volunteered with Indianhead Community Action Agency, Medford. He enjoyed the outdoors, planting trees, making firewood, scrap processing, gardening, his coffee clutches and church dinners.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville; Medford VFW; and the Knights of Columbus.

John is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Cypher, Town of Little Black; children Peter (Diane) Cypher of Sun Prairie, Judy Cypher of Wausau, Andy Cypher of Curtiss and Sara (Michael) Campbell of Medford; grandchildren Alycia, Cody, Devin, Trisha, Maddie; 3 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by siblings, Joe (Sharon) Cypher of Medford, Venard (Mary Jane) Cypher of Mc Farland, Herman (Karen) Cypher of Madison; Mary Ann (Gale) Engel of Chippewa Falls and Mary Rose Paine of California.

John is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth (Retterath) Cypher; siblings, Clyde, Don, Eugene, Jerry and Fr. Michael Cypher, Helen Delek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be given to the family for a future designation.
