Harder, Lavern A. (Fischer) (6 MAY 1925 - 3 Oct 2016)

Lavern A. Harder, age 91, of Medford, died Monday, October 3 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where she had resided for the past 1 year.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 7 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Township of Holway, with Rev. Lowell Bolstad officiating. Interment will be in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Friday, October 7 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

The honorary pallbearer is James Gruneberg; active pallbearers are grandsons Alan Harder, Jason Harder, Robert Sackmann, Chad Smith, Don Carlson and Mike Latsch.

Lavern was born on May 6, 1925, in Medford, to George and Barbara (Frischmann) Fischer.

She attended Town of Grover elementary schools and was a graduate of Owen-Withee High School.

On July 14, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford, Lavern married Henry C. Harder, Jr. He preceded her in death July 15, 1980.

After her marriage, they farmed in the Town of Little Black for 3 years. Then they farmed in the Town of Hammel from 1952 until retirement in 1981. While farming she worked at Hurd Millwork, clerked at Anthony’s, Hoffman’s Ben Franklin, Jensen Grocery Store and the Medford Co-op for periods of time. She enjoyed embroidery, gardening, tying quilts, listening to Lawrence Welk music, canning and making photo albums.

Laverne was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Town of Holway.

She is survived by her children, George (Deb) Harder, Jim (Barbara) Harder, Carol (Ray) Sackmann all of Medford; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; siblings Gerald (Mary Ann) Fischer of Hartford, Glen (Joan) Fischer of La Crosse; Leon Hamel of West Lafayette, Indiana; sisters-in-law Ann Fischer of West Bend and Virginia Harder of Medford.

Lavern is predeceased by her parents, George and Barbara (Frischmann) Fischer; siblings Eugene, Don and Kenneth Fischer, Barbara Stoiber, Bernice Millikin and Marcella Hamel.

She is also preceded in death by her special friend - Robert Fitzgerald, Sr.
