June V. Lemke, age 99, of Cedar Lane Apts. #178, Medford, passed away Tuesday, November 1 at Aspirus Care & Rehab, Medford where she had resided for the past 5 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 5 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford, with Pastor Brian Mundt officiating.

Interment of her cremated remains will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Bob Bowen, Jr. Bryan Bowen, David Lemke Jr., Dennis Lemke, Lorne Lemke, Lisa Lemke-Legler, John Lemke, Tom Lemke.

Visitation will be at 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Saturday, November 5 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford.

June was born on June 3, 1917 at Medford, to Peter Thunn and Emma Bertha (Claviter) Peterson.

She attended Medford elementary schools, 1934 graduate of Medford High School, 1935 graduate of Taylor County Normal School, Medford.

After her education, she taught at the Mathey School in the Town of Medford for a short period of time. She clerked at the Medford Co-op for a period of time. June worked as a housewife/mother for most of her life. They owned and operated a mink ranch in the Town of Medford for a period of time. She enjoyed quilting, traveling to Nicaragua where she taught sewing & has a learning center named after her, making Amish dolls, bowling and painting. She was a leader of the Thrifty Go-Getters 4-H Club.

June’s first marriage was to Arthur Schneider, on October 6, 1936 at Belvidere, IL. He preceded her in death January 18, 1942.

Her second marriage was to Herman Lemke on August 21, 1943 at Hartland, WI. He preceded her in death December 12, 1977.

June was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford; Taylor Co. Historical Society where she also worked as a volunteer; Past G.U.G. Germania member; Charter member of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Medford

She is survived by her children, David (Shirley) Lemke of Medford; Russell (Marlene) Lemke of Mosinee; Son-in-law: Robert Bowen of Stevens Point; Step Daughter-in-law: Florence Lemke of Medford; Foster Child: Rita Warner of Mosinee; grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren.

June is predeceased by her parents, Peter Thunn and Emma Bertha (Claviter) Peterson; children Sherin Bowen in 2009; Step Children Frank Lemke and Betty (Joe) Prohaska; Step Granddaughter Patricia Lemke; Step Grandson David Prohaska.

She is also predeceased by her siblings, Myles, Lee and Claude Peterson, Hazel Bloom, Joyce Buss, Meryl Nielsen, Carol Pennington.
