Apfelbeck, Hubert "Hub" J. (14 MAR 1927 - 4 NOV 2016)

Hubert "Hub" J. Apfelbeck, age 89, of Colby, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at The Waterford in Colby.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Tim Oudenhoven will officiate. Burial will be held in Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Hubert was born on March 14, 1927, the son of Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck. He was united in marriage to Lavonne Prucher on January 20, 1949 in Chippewa Falls. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2013.

Hubert was a truck driver for many years, including Morris Gierl and Melvin Companies both in Abbotsford and retired after hauling mobile homes for 31 years for Wick Building Systems in Spencer. He enjoyed bowling, going to the casiono, camping and traveling. Hubert especially enjoyed the winters with his wife in Florida.

Hubert is survived by five children: Michael (Pam) Apfelbeck of Rhinelander, Ronald (Diann) Apfelbeck of Chelsea, Sherri Leu (special friend, Ronald Poehnelt), James Apfelbeck (special friend, Karen Sebold) and Jeannie (Phil) Purdy all of Abbotsford; former son-in-law, Allen Leu of Abbotsford; eight grandchildren: Kim Leu, Kristy (Allan) Bender, Kerry (Joe) Clements, Dana (Chris) Klauk, Heather (Dave) Brahm, Jason (Lacy) Apfelbeck, Mike (Carrie) Apfelbeck and Michelle (Jason) Kayhart; 16 great-grandchildren: Cody (Alyssa), Nick, Adeline, Georgia, Noah, Anya, Erika, Jaden, Catera, Coy, Jude, Grace, Josh, Devin, Logan and Jonah.

He is further survived by his nine brothers and sisters: Rosemary Chris, Lucille Weber, Agnes Weber, Pat (Roy) Boneskee, Helen (Duane "Butch") Leu, Ray (Marlene) Bob (Darlene) Arnold (Evelyn) and Dorothy (Dave) Kramas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lavonne; three brothers and one sister: Leon, Bernice, Andrew and Claude.

The Family requests Memorials to Special Olympics.
