Lenz, Viola “Olie” (Albrecht) Schmitt (31 AUG 1927 - 26 NOV 2016)

Viola “Olie” Schmitt Lenz, age 89, of Cascade, passed away on Nov. 26, 2016, in Palmetto, Fla.

A funeral service was held on Friday evening, Dec. 2, 2016, at 6 p.m. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father Wayne Bittner will preside. Visitation took place on Friday, Dec. 2, from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Athens at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016.

She was born on Aug. 31, 1927, in Athens, daughter of the late Peter and Emma (Brown) Albrecht.

On June 18, 1949, Viola married Bernard “Barney” Schmitt at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens. The couple resided in Athens from 1949-1956, moved to Cedarburg and resided from 1956-1963, and in 1963 they purchased the Harbor Lights Resort on Lake Ellen which they ran until retirement in 1987. Barney preceded her in death on June 23, 1989.

She married Bob Lenz in September 1995 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cascade. They have resided in Cascade and Palmetto, Fla., following their marriage.

Olie enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting and love to bowl.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Lenz of Palmetto, Fla.; six children, Russell (Kathy) Schmitt of Plymouth, Raymond (Bernadette) Schmitt of Eagle, Roger (Caroline Fender) Schmitt of St. Germaine, Regan Schmitt of Cascade, Randy (Lori) Schmitt of Plymouth and Robert (Sue) Schmitt of Green Bay; twelve grandchildren, Ann (Don) Rodman, Jessica Byrnes, Zach (Melissa) Schmitt, Megan Schmitt, Hanna Schmitt, Katie Schmitt, Corrie (Chris) Jape, Emily (Damian Joseph) Schmitt, Madlyn Schmitt, Drew Schmitt, Alex Schmitt and Allison Schmitt; eight great-grandchildren; four step-children, Susan (Laurence) Scheer of Palmetto, Fla., Jim (Cindy) Lenz of Hingham, Jon Lenz of Milwaukee and Sally (Joe) Petro of New York; three step-grandchildren, Christine (Christopher) Doyle, Marla (Jeff) Nett and Erin Mireles; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Walton; a brother, Earl (Nancy) Albrecht; two brothers-in-law, Norman Hamby and Floyd (Grace) Schmitt; four sisters-in-law, Marcella Krueger, Winnifred (Adam) Kwiecinski, Ardis Schmitt and Marjorie Schmitt.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Olie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Barney; sisters, Lucille Hamby and Ellen Dittman; and a granddaughter, Sarah Schmitt.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Viola’s name.

The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Plymouth has assisted the family with arrangements.
