Morley, Elda Emma (1919? – 9 December 2016)

Elda Emma Morley, 97, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016.

Ella was the youngest daughter of William and Martha Foemmel. Raised in rural Neillsville, after graduating from high school in 1937, she had many different jobs, including waitressing at Stouffers in Chicago. When war was declared in 1941, Elda moved to Los Angeles and secured a job as a rivet inspector on an airplane assembly line. It was during this time that she met her “Montana Cowboy,” Bill Morley, a serviceman from Montana.

They were married in 1943. After the war, they moved to Granton where they operated an ice cream parlor, and Bill became the rural mail carrier. Elda was a homemaker while the kids were growing up and later worked for Modern of Marshfield.

Elda was preceded in death by her husband Bill and her siblings: Clara, Sally, Ella, Gerhardt, Ed, and Martha, and by her daughter-in-law, Diane Morley.

Two children survive her: Fred (Linda) Morley, and Joanne Ames; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Elda will always be remembered for the many pieces of furniture she and Bill refinished and her exceptional quilting and crafting skills.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton. Pastor Daniel Schoessow will officiate. Providing music will be Caroline Helm. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday before the service at the church. Interment will be in Windfall Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, W2880 Granton Rd., Granton, WI 54436 or the Black River Memorial Hospice, 711 W. Adams St., Black River Falls, WI 54615.
