Burke, Shirley A. (Peterson) (9 AUG 1928 - 5 MAR 2015)

Shirley A. Burke, age 86, of N7176 Second Street, Chelsea, passed away on Thursday, March 5 at her residence in the Town of Chelsea under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice.

Per Shirley’s request, no services are scheduled. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Rib Lake. Family members will be serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at the Hemer Funeral Home, Rib Lake from 9 AM to 11 AM on Thursday, March 12.

She was born on August 9, 1928 at Milwaukee.

Shirley attended Milwaukee area elementary schools, was a graduate of Oregon, IL High School, and attended nursing school in Milwaukee.

Her first marriage was to Walter Peters in Freeport, IL and they were later divorced. Shirley’s second marriage was on February 28, 1959 in Dixon, IL, to Clifford Burke, Sr. He preceded her in death February 10, 1998.

After her education, she worked at Edelman Mfg. In Dixon, IL for a period of time. In 1976 they moved to the Town of Chelsea and she worked at Halls Distributing in Medford for a period of time. She also sold Avon products. She did volunteer work for Indianhead, pre-school day care & meals on wheels. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cribbage, the Green Bay Packers, Alan Jackson music & helping people out in their time of need.

Shirley was a past member of the Klossner-Dietzler VFW Auxiliary, Medford.

She is survived by her children, Clifford (Gale) Burke, Jr. of Chelsea; Penny Olson of Troy, Missouri; Isuea Burke of Japan; and further survived by 5 children from her first marriage residing in IL; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Clifford Burke, Sr. in 1998; her parents; and a sister, Tootie Last.
