Lew, Stanley Sr. (1 SEP 1931 - 8 DEC 2016)

Stanley Lew, Sr., 85, formerly of Gilman, died Thursday, Dec. 8 at Oakbrook Nursing Home, Thorp.

He was born on September 1, 1931 at home in rural Clark County, the son of the late John, Sr. and Katherine (Tyznik) Lew. He grew up in the area and on September 29, 1951 married Eleanore Twardowski. The couple farmed in the Gilman area for many years. Stanley enjoyed making wine and smoking fish. He always shared these with family, neighbors and friends.

When the children were young, the Lew and Wojcik families would put up a large ice fishing shack on Big Chetac near Birchwood. Stanley and Eleanore enjoyed traveling and camping. They attended Country Fest, Pulaski Polka Days and the Minnesota State Fair for many years. They had many acquaintances that they would see once a year at these events and they became good friends. Eleanore was the love of his life and he has missed her dearly. We can take comfort in that they are now together again.

He is survived by his children, Stanley, Jr. and Mark (MaryAnn) Lew, both of Thorp, George (Melody) Lew of Ashland, Laurie (Richard) Hoehn of Jump River and Linda (Larry) Olejnichak of Gilman; 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. Stanley is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore (2011); his parents; five brothers, John, Jr., Walter, Frank, Mike and Henry; and one sister, Helen Smith.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Gilman with Father Madanu Lourdu Raju officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery, Gilman.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday morning until time of service at the church. The Gilman funeral home assisted the family with arrangements.
