Loertscher, Valgene Edward (25 FEB 1939 - 23 MAR 2017)

Valgene Edward Loertscher, age 78 of Lac du Flambeau found peace on March 23, 2017 at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff.

Val was born on February 25, 1939 in Medford the son of Edward and Inez (Amo) Loertscher. Val graduated from Medford High School and attended UW Stevens Point for 2 years and then entered the US Marine Corps. He married the love of his life, Judith Frombach on January 20, 1960. Val owned and operated Val’s Auto & Marine until he retired last year.

He was a very proud Marine and a groomer for Northern Hornshoe snowmobile club. He loved the Packers and NASCAR, he was a former driver himself at Tomahawk Speedway. Every winter you could find him in his shack on White Sand with a smile on his face and fish in his bucket. He would help anyone that needed it.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Judith of Lac du Flambeau, WI and by 3 children: Jeff (Cindy Myers) Loertscher of Arbor Vitae; Mark (Chris) Loertscher of Carbondale, CO; and Kelly (Joel “Rooster”) Wheeler of Arbor Vitae and by grandchildren: Jake Loertscher, Valerie Loertscher and Monique Rodriguez all of Carbondale, CO.

Further survived by 2 brothers: Alan “Red” (Lucy) Loertscher, Ron (Aileen) Loertscher and 4 Sisters: Janice (Bob) Werner, Jeannie (Doug) Thomas, Carol Gosse and Joann Valli and by tons of friends, sister-in-law; Nancy Siroin and his special dog; Lacey, whom is lost without him and many nieces and nephews.

Val was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Inez and his brother, Harlyn and sister, Gloria and brother-in-law, Merle “Squirrely” Gosse.

Upon Val’s wishes, cremation took place and a Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date.
