Richard Brotherton, a native of Utica, NY, moved to the town of Hull in 1886 after serving in the final year of the war and fathered 12 children (including five who died before him). “He had borne his duties in life as a son, husband, father, brother, friend and soldier, bravely and well. Who can do more?” his obituary says.
