The Mattes Livestock Auction Market, Inc., of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) celebrated their 31st year in business with their traditional anniversary sales. These sales continue to grow in dollar volume and in quantity of animals. The week including September 15, 16, 17, and 23rd saw 3128 head of livestock pass through the sale ring. They sold for a total of $293,873.79.

Large crowds were on hand for each of these sales – door prized on Sunday were as follows: Carl Elmstedt of Thorp, $5.00; Stanley Botch of Glendive, Montana, $100.00; and Art Kuester, Thorp $10.00. Pat Burke of River Falls won a $25 Savings Bond for being the largest consignor, and Don Burke, Spring Valley, won a similar prized for being the largest buyer.

On Monday the following door prizes were won: Bob Jacobs, Green Bay, $5.00; Fran Beschta, Eau Claire, $10; Dan Schultze of Thorp won the $25 Savings Bond for being the largest consignor on that day; and Harold Machtan of Marshfield, buying for Packerland Co. of Green Bay, won the bond for being the largest buyer.

Tuesday's winners were: Ed Brecke of Stetsonville, the $5 door prize; Elmer L. Johnson of Mondovi and J.J. W. Geurkink of Baldwin, the $10 door prize, and Don Richmond of Neillsville was the largest consignor and Leonard Linsmeier of Menominee, Michigan, was the largest buyer. The last two received $25 Savings Bonds.

Recent improvement at the market include a complete paint job to the outside of all buildings, and the remodeling of the office. The office has been expanded to twice its former size, and adequately accommodates eight office workers. These and other improvements are being made in an effort to give better service to the ever growing "family of market customers."
