Blasel, Leona M. (Boxrucker) (20 NOV 1917 - 21 AUG 2017)

Leona M. Blasel, age 99, of Stetsonville, passed away on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 at Care Partners Assisted Living in Medford, where she had resided for the past ten months, most recently under the care of Hope Hospice.

Memorial Services will be on Friday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville with Rev. Richard Russow officiating. Visitation will take place at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 25. Interment will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Leona was born on Nov. 20, 1917 in the Town of Mayville to the late Elizabeth (Schumacher) and Jacob Boxrucker. She attended the Township of Mayville, Clark County Elementary Schools. On Dec. 7, 1938 in Valparaiso, Ind., she married Edwin R. Blasel and he preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1991.

Leona worked most of her life as a housewife and mother while residing in Stetsonville. She volunteered at the Centennial Community Center in Stetsonville for 24 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed driving the Amish people around along with polka dancing, knitting, card playing, gardening (especially raspberries), watching the Brewers and Packers and spending winters in Florida. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, Zion Mission Circle and Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Auxiliary in Stetsonville.

Leona is survived by her children, Alice Nelson of Stevens Point, Doris (Bruce) Dietze of Medford and Allen (Susan) Blasel of Plymouth; step-children, Edna Porter of Plover, Florence Jarvis of Brookfield and Arlene (Harvey) Dassow of Wauwatosa; step-daughter-in-law, Ilaine Blasel of Stetsonville; six grandchildren and 15 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 25 step-great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence (Marjorie) Boxrucker of Stetsonville and Edward Boxrucker of Medford.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona is preceded in death by her step-children, Elmer Blasel and Norma Lake; granddaughter, Beth Schield; step-granddaughters, Sandra Stanley and Debra Porter; son-in-law, Don Nelson; and step-son-in-laws, Will Lake, Harry Porter and Gene Jarvis; siblings, Al (Agnes) Boxrucker, Delores (Adolph) Dums, Raymond (Arlene) Boxrucker; and sister-in-law, Jean Boxrucker.
