Newman, Raymond Howard (3 MAY 1938 - 7 DEC 2017)

Raymond Howard Newman, age 79, formerly of Owen, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. The Reverend Brian Armstrong will officiate. Military honors conducted by the Owen American Legion Post #123, Lublin American Legion Post #547 and the Owen Vets Club. Family and friends are welcome on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service all at the funeral home.

Ray was born on May 3, 1938 in Owen, the son of Howard and Ella (Anderson) Newman. He enlisted in the US Army and served from1956-57. Ray was united in marriage to Doloris Mengel on April 7, 1960. They later divorced. He worked numerous jobs until retiring from driving truck.

Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching football, including the Badgers and watching westerns and polkas on tv. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family.

Ray is survived by seven children: Mary Newman (Cindy Buske) of Neillsville, Sarah (Kevin) Winkler of Wisconsin Rapids, James (Jeanette) Newman of Wisconsin Rapids, Tammy Kopinski (Joe) of Neillsville, Lynn (Wayne) Mullikin of Wisconsin Rapids, Kim (Mike) Kleinschmidt of Port Edwards and Jessica Moser (Elvernon Bilbo) of Wisconsin Rapids; 12 grandchildren and15 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his step-mother, Gladys Newman of Rib Lake; eight brothers and sisters: Al (Elaine) Newman of IN, Marvin (Barbara) Newman of Medford, Eddie (Marilee) Newman of PA, Roger (Marilyn) Newman of Gilman, Richard (Carol) of Marshfield, Bev (Ed) White of Thorp, Patsy White of Marshfield and Linda (Pete) Strey of Spencer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his ex-wife, Doloris; two grandchildren: Jessie Winkler and Tracey Mohr.
