Pszeniczny, Rose Mary (14 NOV 1927 – 10 DEC 2017)

Rose Mary Pszeniczny, age 90, of Thorp, passed away peacefully at Oakbrook Health and Rehab, on Sunday, December 10,2017.

Rose Mary Zawacki was born November 14, 1927, to William and Emily (Malinowski) Zawacki in the Township of Withee, rural Thorp. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Withee High School in 1946. Before leaving for Chicago, Rose Mary had her eye on a classmate named Eddie Pszeniczny, who was handsome, could dance, and played the concertina. In downtown Chicago, she lived in a rooming house and worked a receptionist/ bookkeeper in the Merchandise Mart, along the Chicago River, for approximately one year. She then moved back to Thorp, and at the age of 19 married the love of her life, Edward Pszeniczny, on September 13, 1947, at St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in die country.

Rosie and Eddie lived in the Town of Reseburg for 51 years, running a successful dairy farm where they raised and milked Registered Holsteins. Rosie managed all of the finances and farm taxes. Rosie loved taking care of her baby calves and helped manage the herd alongside Eddie. The cows always milked better when the radio played polka music, and Rosie and Eddie danced in the aisle of the barn! She had a love of pine trees, would raise them, give them to family members, and donate them to other organizations, such as the City of Thorp for its Arbor Day celebrations. The Pszeniczny woods was a favorite place to visit for family members, as Eddie and Rosie would guide us on tours deep into the woods, take pictures by the river, have picnics on blankets under the tall trees, and gather mushrooms every year. Rosie also had a love of photography. She has an extensive collection of beautiful photos of family, nature, Eddie (of course!) and their Holsteins. In addition to her work on the farm, Rosie was also a CNA.

She was a member of the Oakland Homemakers Club where she conducted and played in the ever-famous Hobo Band that entertained at many community events, parades, nursing homes and schools. Rosie loved to polka dance with her Eddie. They were members of the Thorp Polish Folk Dancers, the Thorp Historical Society, and were lifelong members of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Parish. They donated much of their time volunteering and working at events at the Quonset Hall and participated faithfully in Church Masses and rosaries. In 1998, Eddie and Rosie retired and moved to their new home in Thorp.

Rosie will be sadly missed by numerous friends and family. She has three surviving siblings: Joann Muraski of Bellwood, IL, Mary Ogurek of Thorp, and Ted (Joan) Zawacki of Eau Claire.
