Behnke, Elizabeth “Betty” E. (Jaeck) (22 FEB 1912 - 14 NOV 2007)

Elizabeth “Betty” E. Behnke, 85, Wausau, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

She was born February 12, 1922 in Germany, daughter of the late Otto and Hedwig (Schmidt) Jaeck. On May 11, 1963 she married Leslie Behnke. He survives.

When she was 10 months old she arrived in America on a ship from Germany, later Betty and Les were able to travel there and also to England. Betty worked at Marathon Battery and later Pilot Printing. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, fishing, and taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens. Family was very important to her, she attended every family function. For years, Betty volunteered extensively, especially at Trinity Lutheran Church and Bethesda.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie, Wausau; sister, Erma Jaeck, Birnamwood; step-grandson, James Behnke, Wisconsin Dells and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Jaeck, brother, Erick Jaeck and stepson, Dale Behnke.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 501 Stewart Ave, Wausau. The Rev. Gary Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services all at the church.
