Dahnert, Robert E. (16 September 1918 – 15 October 1974)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for a former Neillsville resident, Robert E. Dahnert of Stroudsburg, Pa., who died there October 15, at the age of 56. The Rev. William Noble of the united Methodist Church officiated, and burial followed in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Robert Dahnert, the son of Mrs. Elsie (Radke) Dahnert of Neillsville, and the late Albert Dahnert, was born September 16, 1918, in Marshfield. He attended St. Olaf’s College in Northfield, Mn., and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and received a master’s degree in music education from Northwestern University, Evanston, Il.

He taught in Clay County High School, Clay, W.V., and at Michigan State University. East Lansing, Mi., and was director of bands for the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

His editorial work in instrumental music was with Summy-Birchard Co., publishers in Evanston, Il.

Mr. Dahnert was manager of Educational Music Bureau in Chicago, and Eastern states sales representative for Shawnee Press, Inc. He was a live member of the Music Educators conference.

An Army veteran of WWII, he served with the 90th Infantry Division.

Mr. Dahnert was a member of the Stroudsburg United Methodist Church and of its senior choir and was also a member of the Stroudsburg Kiwanis Club.

His marriage to the former Frances Conrad took place November 27, 1946, in Clay, W.V.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and his wife, include four sons, James of Lake Harmony, Pa., and John, Stephen, and David, all at home; and two sisters: Mrs. Betty Goudin of Eau Claire, and Miss Eileen Dahnert of Neillsville.

Pallbearers were: Dr. C. N. Schield, David Krutsch, Elton Imig, Walter Beyer, John Reinart, and Thad Zajac.

Wilfred Galstad sang “Abide with Me,” and “Softly and Tenderly,” accompanied by Mrs. Kendall Smith.
