Teitsch, Harold (3 AUG 1898 – 11 OCT 1970)

Harold Teitsch retired Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) laborer and part time city employee was killed outright in a two car crash that occurred at 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the Sackett Lake area, Taylor County, 11 miles northwest of Medford.

Six other persons were seriously injured in the head on crash.

Teitsch, 72, driver of one of the cars, was killed instantly. His wife is hospitalized and still reported in a critical condition. She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Medford and later transferred to Marshfield.

Five Medford young people occupied the toehr car, which was driven by Michael T. Gebert, 16.

Gebert suffered massive head injuries, for which he is being treated at the Medford hospital. His sister, Becky, 15, and a brother, Mark, 14, suffered internal injuries and cuts, and also are patients at the Medford hospital.

Other occupants of the Gebert car were Cathy Fleischman, 18, who is reported in serious condition at the Medford hospital, with head injuries, and Jeff Hemer, 14, was treated for cuts and released.

Authorizes said both cars were equipped with seat belts, which were not in use when the accident occurred.

Sunday’s fatality was the third on Taylor County highways this year.

Funeral services will be held today at 1:30 p.m. from the Hoeper-Kraut Funeral Home, with Rev. W.H. Luetkehoelter officiating. Burial will be made at Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Clark, Roy Clark, J.J. Crowley, Carl Pedersen, John Lukowicz, and Harry Dempsey.

Harold Teitsch was born August 3, 1898 in Iowa. His marriage to Mildred Laack took place August 17, 1926, in Owen. He had been employed in Owen at the Owen Box & Crating Company; John S. Owen Lumber Company, and the Frederick Post Company, in addition to having served a number of years as a member of the Owen Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Vivian) Johnson, Withee, and Mrs. Glen (Geraldine) Luscher, Wittenberg; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Mable Altman, Blue Grass, Iowa, and Mrs. Floy Schnoor, Owen.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
