Beckett, Rose M. (Mechelke) Roth (21 NOV 1933 - 10 APR 2018)

Rose M. Beckett, 84 of Ladysmith died Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her home.

She is survived by 3 children: Billy Roth & Chuck Mogensen of Ladysmith, David Roth of Ladysmith and Sandy & Jack Lacey of Lansdale, PA, 5 grandsons: Travis Kostka, Nick Lieb, Terrance Roth, Douglas Roth and Matthew Roth, 6 brothers: Richard Mechelke of Bruce, Lenny Mechelke of Cadott, Bruce & Penny Shackleton of Alabama, Fran & Mary Mechelke of Ladysmith, Billy & Doreen Mechelke of Rice Lake and Bob & Karen Mechelke of Gilman and 2 sisters: June Schmidt of Portland, OR and Pat & Ernie Wawrzyniak of South Bend, IN.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Church of Christ in Ladysmith, with Rev. Russell Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Tuesday morning starting at 10:00 A.M.

Rose Marie Beckett, 84, of Ladysmith, died on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at home following a respiratory illness.

Rose was born on Nov. 21, 1933 in Ladysmith to August and Lou Ella Mechelke. She married Willard Roth, and they were wedded for more than 20 years. She later married Lauren Beckett, and they were wedded until his death in 1979. She was a member of First Church of Christ in Ladysmith.

Rosie came from a large family and learned early on how to care for people. She is one of 17 siblings. Rosie worked at Indianhead Cafe. She started as a dishwasher and ended as a waitress, the job she loved the most. In all her jobs as a mother, waitress and assembly technician, she had an exceptional work ethic. In all her days, she used her wit and humor to get through all her times. She was generous to her family, friends and strangers to a fault. She would give her last nickel if the occasion called for it. She was a good sibling, mother, friend and neighbor.

Although in later years, when feeling poorly, she loved her independence and continued driving until the very end. She loved to mow grass and did it whenever she could. She enjoyed watching and feeding the deer and birds. She enjoyed playing cards and won many hands. The last day Rosie was able to walk, she cleaned the house. In Rosie’s last four years, she was tenderly cared for by her son, Billy and Chuck Mogensen. She adored them dearly. She was thankful for the care she received from Hope Hospice and Palliative Care. She became very close to her caregivers, Deb Fischer, Nicole Winchell and Missy Zuleger.

Rose is survived by her sons, William Roth and David Roth, both of Ladysmith and her daughter, Sandy Lacey of Lansdale, Pa. She is further survived by her brothers, Richard Mechelke, of Bruce, Lenny Mechelke of Cadott; Bruce Shackleton of Alabama, Fran Mechelke of Ladysmith; Billy Mechelke of Rice Lake and Bob Mechelke of Gilman and her sisters June Schmidt of Grants Pass, Ore. and Pat Skowera of South Bend, Ind. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Travis Kostka, who lives in Ladysmith; Terrance, Douglas and Matthew Roth, each of whom are active in the Army; and Nicholas Lieb, who resides in Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Diane Schwaller from Wausaukee who passed away in June 2016.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 17 at First Church of Christ in Ladysmith with Pastor Russ Kinney officiating.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Ladysmith.

Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
