Raymond “Ray” Walter Adams, age 72, of Bruce, went home to be with the Lord he loved on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at his home after a brief battle with cancer.

Ray was born on Dec. 18, 1945, the son of John and Virginia (Berkeypile) Adams. He was a 1964 graduate of Bruce High School and attended Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Mich. where he met the love of his life, Darla Dowd. They married on Nov. 18, 1967.

He worked various jobs throughout his life, his longest times of employment were with Dairyland State Bank and Weather Shield. He attended Grace Bible Church in Bruce.
Ray loved the woods and treasured the times spent on his family’s land. He could talk for hours about area history and enjoyed gaining knowledge from the older members of the community. He was a “tinkerer” who could find a treasure in anything. He was known for his puns and jokes.
His favorite times were spent with his family. His parents and siblings were extremely special to him. He was a Godly husband to his precious bride and showed his family a wonderful picture of selfless love. His children and their spouses knew that he loved them as he always put them before work or hobbies. He relished his role as grandpa and found great joy in each of his grandchildren.

Family and friends most appreciated Ray for his quirky sense of humor, his willingness to help others and the example of true love that Darla and he displayed. He was wholeheartedly in love with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He wanted to go home to Heaven, and was looking forward to seeing his dad. While we will miss him, we rejoice that he is truly home and free from pain. We thank you for your prayers for our family during this time.

Ray is survived by his wife of 50 years, Darla; his children, Amy Martin of Wittenberg, Troy (Jeni) Adams of Bruce and Ginger (Matt) Holbrook of Marion. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan, Sean (Mary), Brandon, Ben, Nathan, Brittney, Hunter, Steven, Grant, Shelly and Haley; his siblings, David (Marilyn) of Ashtabula, Ohio, Joan (John) Klanderud of Fremont, Mich., Dianne (Greg) Martin of Rosenberg, Texas and Jeff (Connie) of Everett, Wash.; his in-laws, Glenda Scott, Sandra (Bob) Corey and Mary (Brian) Lawell; and many friends, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
