Herman Mayer, 73, a native of the Humbird area, died February 21 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire.

Mr. Mayer was born November 8, 1901, at Humbird to the late Mr. and Mrs. Antone Mayer, Sr., and attended Fairview Parochial School. His marriage to the former Gertrude Gorst took place April 30, 1929. The couple lived in Eau Claire where he was employed at the Sterling Pulp and Paper Company for 12 years. In 1941, the Mayers moved to rural Humbird here they farmed.

Mr. Mayer was active in civic and church affairs, having served as a trustee of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, of which he was a member, as assessor for the Town of Mentor, as a member of the Fairchild school board for 12 years, and as an elected community and county committeeman for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, two sons: Gerald Mayer of Hobart, In., and Donald Mayer, of Balsam Lake, two daughters: Rosemary Pomasl of Wausau and Mrs. Charles Stumpner of Eau Claire; three brothers: Ted Mayer of Fairchild and Anton Mayer, Jr., and Joseph Mayer, both of Humbird; three sisters: Mrs. Albert Zimmerman, Mrs. Percy Bemis and Mrs. George Dimmitt, all of Humbird and five grandchildren.

Due to inclement weather, scheduled services and interment were delayed.
