Chu Lai, Vietnam – Army Private 1st Class Robert A. Reynolds, 20, son of Mrs. Christie Norris, 205 S. Lemon, Azusa, California recently received the Combat Infantryman Badge near Chu Lai, Vietnam.

The badge is a unique and cherished award that is highly coveted by recipients. The award was originated during World War II to recognize the role of the infantryman. The CIB can be awarded only to a member of an infantry unit of Brigade, Regimental or smaller siz unite, who satisfactorily performed in active ground combat against a hostile force for a period of time.

In honor to its singular meaning, the badge is worn above all other awards and decorations, over the left breast. It is a blue rectangle with a silver rifle mounted on it, superimposed over a curved wreath. Subsequent awards are represented by stars at the top center of the wreath.

Pfc. Reynolds received the award while assigned as a machine gunner in Company B, 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry of the 23rd Infantry Division 198th Infantry Brigade.
