Melander, Edward (1906 – 1 JUL 1974)

Edward Melander, 68, passed away Monday evening, July 1, 1974 at his home of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity, Friday, at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. James W. Primely officiating. Burial will be made in the trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Unity.

The body will lie in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby, beginning Thursday at 2:00 p.m., with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

He was married to Gertrude Steffen, September 24, 1929 at Medford, Wisconsin. After their marriage they lived in Chicago for a short time. In 1930 they moved to a farm in the Town of Brighton (Marathon Co., Wis.). He was a Town Clerk for the Town of Brighton for 18 years, Town Chairman for the same Township for 18 years. He was a member of the Marathon County Board for 20 years. At the time of his death he was serving as Supervisor of District #29 in Marathon County. He was Chairman of the Marathon County Conservation, Recreation, Zoning and Planning Committee, member of the County Executive Committee, member of the County Agricultural Society, and of the Handicapped Board, and also a member of the Committee of Ageing.

He was a former member of the Marathon County Soil Conservation Service, and also of the Unity Odd Fellow Lodge. He was a member of the Civil Defense.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, also serving on the Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Colby Masonic Lodge and the Abbotsford Star Lodge. He was a 4-H leader for 26 years in Marathon County.

He graduated from Unity High School and attended the University of Wisconsin for two years.

Surviving, besides his wife, are Mrs. Harold (Audrey) Hederer, Unity Wisconsin, and Donald of R. 1, Unity, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
