Glenzer, Gerald W. (19 SEP 1936 - 28 NOV 2018)

Gerald W. Glenzer, age 82, of the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home at King, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.

A celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, for the immediate family. A burial at the veteran’s cemetery in King will be held at a later date.

Gerald was born on Sept. 19, 1936, in Milwaukee, to Pete W. and Arline M. (Zulke) Glenzer. When he was a young boy his family moved to Colby, where he was raised and received his education, graduating from Colby High School in 1954.

During his junior and senior years of high school, he was in the naval reserve electronics division 9-11. After high school, Gerald enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Oct. 18, 1954, and served until his honorable discharge on April 30, 1955. Upon his return from service, Gerald worked for a few years with a carnival traveling the country. He was united in marriage to MaryAnn Dvorak and later divorced.

Gerald worked as a cement finisher for many years, mainly on highway construction. He later bought his own tractor and trailer and drove for a few years before retiring. During retirement, Gerald enjoyed traveling to local fairs and selling food concessions.

Gerald is survived by his daughter, Lisa M. (Mike) Steltenpohl of Wausau; his son, Gerald S. Glenzer of Spencer; his son-in-law, John Hagen of Loyal; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Dinah) Holland of Marshfield and Jim Holland of Pittsville; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Susan A. Glenzer and Pamela A. (Glenzer) Hagen; his parents; his sister, Bonnie Dzbinski; and his brother, Tom Holland.
