Joswiak, Genevieve E. (Kamenick) (28 JUL 1928 - 1 DEC 2018)

Genevieve E. Joswiak, 90, Marathon, died Dec. 1, 2018, at Copperleaf Assisted Living of Marathon surrounded by her family.

She was born July 28, 1928, in the Town of Emmett to the late John M. and Ramona (Dahlke) Kamenick. On Oct. 28, 1950, she married Alfred L. “Buddy” Joswiak at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marathon. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2017.

Genevieve was a faithful and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cassel for more than 68 years. She was also a longtime member of the Marathon American Legion Auxiliary.
Genevieve and Buddy were the owners/operators of a grocery store and meat processing plant, Country Home Locker, in the Town of Cassel. She also worked at Marathon Cheese Corporation for more than 20 years until her retirement.

Genevieve said she was most proud of being married to a great man for more than 67 years. She provided the strong support at home that her husband needed so he could provide so much service to his community. Genevieve was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include six children, David (Catherine) Joswiak, Wausau, Steven (Donna) Joswiak, Wasilla, Alaska, Joan (Dean) Bluske, La Crosse, Russell (Lisa) Joswiak, Chatham, Ill., Andrew (Andrea) Joswiak, Village of Maine, and Peter (Jill) Joswiak, Madison; daughter-in-law, Sheila Joswiak, Weston; 15 grandchildren, Nicole (Chris Daniels) Joswiak, Stephannie (Nathan) Parris, Nathan (Catherine) Joswiak, Alyce Heinzen, Anna (Chris) Long, Sam (Kristina) Joswiak, Charles (Sarah) Joswiak, Jennifer (Darren) Bluske-Fortney, Anthony (special friend, Mindy) Bluske, Ryan Bluske, Amelia (fiancé, Mitchell) Joswiak, Wyatt Joswiak, Kevin (fiancé, Abby) Joswiak, Kyle Joswiak, Helen Joswiak; step-grandchild, Chantell (Robert) Cook-Morgan; 12 great-grandchildren, Owen and Marcus Oviedo, Jonathan, Lillian and Elliot Parris, Juniper and Linden Joswiak, Liam Heinzen, Benjamin and Evelyn Long, Evan and Anna Krull; six step-great-grandchildren, Bella Long, Ryan and Lauren Fortney, Jenna, Kendra and Emma Morgan; a sister, Isabelle Happli, Mosinee; and two brothers, Rudolph (Nancy) Kamenick, Naples, Fla., and Duane (Audrey) Kamenick, Edgar.

Besides her husband and parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by a son, Michael; six sisters, Ethel Masanz, Lucille Wehba, Florence Wallace, Eileen St. Pierre, Anita Jagodinski and Marie Koss; a brother, John; and three grandchildren, Benjamin, Cody and Alivia Joswiak.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cassel. Rev. Felix Tigoy and Rev. Robert Streveler will preside. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon, and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. There will be a rosary service at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Peterson-Kramer Funeral Home in Marathon.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Interim Hospice Services, and Heather and her staff at Copperleaf Assisted Living for their compassion and care.
