Gaier, Betty Jane (3 March 1930 – 31 December 2018)

Betty J. Gaier, age 88 of Black River Falls, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at the Black River Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in Fly Creek Township, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin on March 3, 1930 to Maurice and Marie (nee Witt) Amundson. Betty married Gerald “Tuffy” Gaier in 1951 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls.

Betty had a love of music, whether it was singing with the Evangelical Singers at the church or teaching her grandchildren to play the piano and to sing. She enjoyed Thursday night bowling, dancing to Polka music and waltzing on roller skates. Her faith was very strong and important to her. For many years she taught Sunday school and was the church choir director. Betty was the last of her generation. She was very proud of being the matriarch of her family.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Tuffy; 3 sons: Jim (Brenda), John (Karen) and Joe (Melissa); 10 grandchildren: Justin, Jason, Jarod, Joshua, Sara, Mike, Mariah, Isaac, Natalie and Olivia; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents and 7 siblings: Lester, Ervin, Clemmy, Marion, Ferne, Lucille and Maynard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 115 N. 5th St., Black River Falls with Pastor Eric Bakken officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Torgerson's Funeral Home, 408 N. Water St., Black River Falls and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls.
