Haas, Charlene M. "Char" (7 OCT 1960 – 11 JAN 2019)

Charlene M. “Char” Haas, 58, Thorp, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu officiated and burial followed in East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were Travis Kostick, Joel Zacho, Ryan Haas, Kyle Ogle, Andy Salzgeber and Jesse Salzgeber.

Charlene Marie Hempelman was born on Oct. 7, 1960, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley, to Thomas R. and Alice (nee Kostick) Hempelman. She was raised and received her education in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1979. Char then attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, receiving an associate's degree in business administration. After completing her education, she worked in the office at the fertilizer plant in Thorp, and later as a tax accountant. She married Michael J. Haas on Oct. 20, 1984, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp. Char then worked at Raber Foods in Thorp and Del’s Surge in Owen as an office administrator. In 1998, she went to work for Haas Sons, Inc. in Thorp, as their office administrator, where she was employed until the time of her death. She had many interests, but especially enjoyed gardening, scrapbooking, crafting and relaxing at the family cottage at Lake Holcombe. Char was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its Parish Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by her husband, Michael, of Thorp; three sisters: Judy (Dennis) Salzgeber of Owen, Billie Jo (Bernie) Hempelman of Jump River, and Amy Ogle of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Char was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Michael S. Hempelman; her paternal grandparents: Ralph and Avis Hempelman; her maternal grandparents: John and Helen Kostick; one nephew: Kelsey Hagenson; and one niece: Valentina Schueler.
