Koplitz, Harold E. (4 OCT 1915 – 8 SEP 1973)

A tragic farm accident claimed the life of Harold E. Koplitz, 57, route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), Saturday afternoon. The deceased was working on a combine at his farm when the accident happened and was alone at the time.

He was found dead by his wife when she returned from a shopping trip at about 5:30 p.m. and she in turn notified Clark County authorities.

According to the investigating officers, a tractor equipped with a hydraulic lift had been used to raise the cutting mechanism of the combine and hold it in suspension while Koplitz worked inside the machine.

Apparently the combine rolled backwards, dropping the cutting mechanism and pinning Koplitz inside the machine.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, sept 11, 1973 at the United Church of Christ, Owen, with pastor Kurt Sampson officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Fred Schindler, Carl Riber, Cornelius Driscoll, Walter Hiemback, Peter Rizzi, and Lenard Kademan.

Mr. Koplitz was born October 4, 1915, in Withee (Clark Co.), and attended the Withee schools. Following his marriage to the former Edna bogue on August 29, 1940, at Nashua, Iowa, they lived in the Stanley area.

In 1941 the couple moved to Withee, where they resided until 1944. They then moved to route 2, Owen, where they lived until moving to their present farm at route 1, Curtiss, in 1960. He had operated a farm and was employed as a milk hauler.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Marvin Koplitz, Wausau; a daughter, Miss Sheila Koplitz, Green Bay; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Myrtice) Tieman, Owen; two brothers, Lester Koplitz, Chicago, and Eugene Koplitz, Greeley, Colorado; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Koplitz, Owen, and three grandchildren.
