Bernice Hoffmann (2 Dec 1914 - 24 Jul 2002)

Bernice Hoffmann, 87, Abbotsford, died on Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford where she had resided the past three years.

The former Bernice Bunke was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Marathon County, the daughter of the late Frank and Minnie (Heiszer) Bunke.  She received her education in the country school at Milan.  She married Clifford Hoffmann on May 17, 1933, at Medford.  He died Jan. 6, 1998.

The Hoffmanns farmed in the town of Johnson from 1942 to 1959, and then moved to the town of Mayville, Clark County, to continue farming.  They then resided in Withee for four years and later farmed in the town of Holway, Taylor County, for 34 years.  Mrs. Hoffmann was employed with Teledyne Post Company in Owen as a woodworker.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 38 years and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, reading and traveling.

Mrs. Hoffmann is survived by three daughters, Wilma Neuenfeldt, Dorchester, Lorna Larsen, Medford and Stella (Ken) Grube, Dorchester; two sons, Gary (Joy) Hoffmann, Strum and Lincoln Hoffmann, Withee; one sister, Martha McCaffrey, Green Bay; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 9 step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Lydia, Viola, Norma, Ida and Minnie; four brothers, Carl, Eric, Emil and Otto; and two grand-daughters, Carmel Neuenfeldt and Billie Grube.

Funeral services were held Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee.  The Rev. Tom Myhre presided.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Withee.

Serving as pallbearers were Maurice Larsen, Melvin Larsen, Wyatt Neuenfeldt, Dustin Grube, Karen Tyznik and Vanessa Cwikla.  Honorary pallbearers were Robin Neuenfeldt, Wanda Kallenbach, Marvin Larsen, Andrea Loeffelholz, Royce Ramirez, Candie Tauchen, Crystal Kreuger and April Venet.
