Calmes, Martha (12 AUG 1896 – 10 JUN 1970)

Mrs. George Calmes, 73, Abbotsford, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1970, at the Marshfield Convalescent Center, after an illness of several months.

The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, where a rosary service was held Friday evening. Funeral services were held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. Emil Hodnik officiating. Interment was made in the Wuertzburg Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Michael Calmes, Robert Calmes, Arthur Havlinek, Raymond Schemenauer, Edwin Strade, and Francis Wiese.

The former Martha Reis was born August 12, 1896 in Athens. She received her education in Athens and Sparta schools. Her marriage to George Calmes took place October 12, 1920, at Wuertzburg. They farmed at Dorchester until 1945, when they moved to Abbotsford.

Mrs. Calmes was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

She is survived by her husband, a foster son, Francis Seubert, a grandson, Terry Seubert, Dorchester, and one brothers, Ervin A. Reis, Cable.

Relatives and friends here for the funeral came from Cable, Dorchester, Chicago, Milwaukee, Wausau, Green Bay, Two Rivers, Manitowoc, Pulaski, Kaukauna, Appleton, Mackville, Ironwood, Michigan, Stetsonville, Milan, Athens, Colby, and vicinity.
