Luchterhand, Melvin E. A. (15 SEP 1925 – 29 APR 2019)

Melvin Edward Albert Luchterhand, 93, Loyal, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019, at The House of the Dove in Marshfield. A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 11.

Melvin was born on Sept. 15, 1925, in Loyal, to Alvin and Laura (nee Breier) Luchterhand. He attended school in Spokeville through grade 8. On June 8, 1946, Melvin married Ruth Skoog, the love of his life. The two of them spent many wonderful years together traveling, raising their children, and spending quality time with their families and friends. Melvin had several jobs including dairy farming, Engelwood Garden Center, Loyal Recycling Center, and later in life maintaining Trinity Lutheran Church, from where he would retire. All of these things brought him great joy. Melvin enjoyed spending time grooming the yard, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables, taking care of his chickens and goats, collecting beer cans, and anything old and neat. He also spent time helping Ruth make block quilts, canning, grilling, playing darts with his dart ball group, playing cards, and telling stories of life to his family.

Melvin is survived by his children: Donna (Rich) Karl and Dale (Fay) Luchterhand; his five grandchildren: Karen (Jeff), Kristi, Jessi (Tony), Brady, and Ben (Rebekah); and six great-grandchildren: Mark, David, Emily, Ella, Addison, and her baby brother Luchterhand due in August.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Laura Luchterhand; his wife, Ruth Luchterhand; and his daughter, Debbie Luchterhand.

Melvin’s family would like to extend an enormous amount of gratitude to the staff at The House of the Dove for caring for him in his final days. The care was exceptional, he was happy, and we appreciate all of the extra love given to him by you all.
