Olds, Elverton C. "Jack" (23 DEC 1894 – 6 DEC 1974)

E.C. "Jack" Olds, a resident of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for 44 years, and a prominent businessman and sports figure for 36 years of that span, died suddenly this past week when he was stricken with a heart attack at his home late Friday afternoon, December 6, 1974. He was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where he died that same evening.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, December 9 at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home, with Father Alex Fraser, pastor of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Pete Madsen, David McVey, Franklin Kraut, S.E. Grimes, Louis Burhop, and Lee Jensen.

Elverton C. Olds was born December 23, 1894 at Madison, Georgia, and attended schools in Iowa. He also spent some time in his younger years at Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire before coming to Owen in 1930.

Upon coming to Owen he became a partner in the management of the B & O Chevrolet Garage, and after a year of two bought out his partner and continued to operate the business until he sold out in 1956. He then operated a tavern north of Owen, what is now Gary and Joann's, for one year. He later worked as an auto salesman for Auberg Chevrolet of Owen until his retirement in 1966.

During these many years in the community he was an instrumental figure in the early development of Meadowview Country Club, and was manager of famed Kids Kidds baseball team that competed annually in the state Semi-Pro tournament at Milwaukee.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Van Huizen-Gritz American Legion, Post 123 of Owen, the Masonic Lodge F & AM, No. 317 of Owen, also the Eau Claire Consistory of Scottish Rite and the Zor Shrine Temple of Madison.

On January 22, 1943 he was married to the former Edna Martin, who survives him.

Other survivors include a brother, Walter, Gladstone, Michigan.

A sister and a brother preceded him in death.
