Slobodnik, Carol (27 DEC 1943 – 22 FEB 2020)

Carol Slobodnik, 76, Withee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at her home under the care of Hope Hospice. A visitation and time of prayer will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 1-3 p.m., at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee. Prayer service will start at 2:30. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan, Cole and Devin Szpara, Tom and Jared Volk, and Wade Dobryznski.

Carol was born on Dec. 27, 1943, in Milwaukee. She was adopted at the age of three months by William and Jennie Kangas of Owen. Carol attended and graduated from Owen High School. She married Larry Slobodnik on Oct. 11, 1963, and the couple had two children. She enjoyed a lengthy career working at Scharer Chiropractic in Owen for 22 years. Carol was truly a people person and made many friends during her time behind the desk. Carol finished her career as the full-time bookkeeper for L. R. Slobodnik Construction, Larry and Carol’s business, where she enjoyed the opportunity to work in her home office and spend time with her four grandchildren. Carol was an avid fan of the NBA and enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley in her spare time. Carol and Larry enjoyed their many trips during the winter to Florida where they made countless memories and lifelong friends.

Carol is survived by her husband of 56 years, Larry; their daughters: Tami (Dan) Szpara, and Shari (Tom) Volk; four grandsons; Wade (Samantha) Dobryznski, Cole (Rachael) Szpara, Devin Szpara and Jared (Sabrina) Volk; two great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Dobrzynski and Braylee Szpara; and three more on the way.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents: William and Jennie Kangas; and her in-laws: John and Clara Slobodnik.
