Tolford, R. James (31 DEC 1905 – 22 JUL 1972)

Services were conducted by Reverend Richard Hewittson Tuesday, July 25, 1972 at St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, Owen, for R. James Tolford, 67, longtime resident of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), who died July 22, 1972 at Hayward Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Tolford had been vice president and director of ITT Thorp Corporation. He joined the company in 1941 as manager of the Dodgeville office, and was promoted to head of auction sales prior to becoming vice president in 1962, and a director of the company in 1964. Mr. Tolford was a charter member of the Thorp Lions Club, Mason, Vestryman of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, and director of the Bagpipers Inc., Michigan.

ON May 19, 1932 he was married to Faith Buchanan of Superior. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, (Anthea) Mrs. Alexander Aitken, Richardson, Texas, and (Nancy) Mrs. Richard Lierle, East Grand Rapids, Michigan; two brothers, Frank, Evanston, Illinois, and Joshua, Boston Massachusetts; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Wilson (Mary), Norwich, Vermont, Mrs. Francis Conway (Philomene), Thorp, Mrss. John Harycki (Dorothy), McAllen, Texas, and Josephine, Stanley; and 10 grandchildren.

Born in Thorp, December 31, 1904, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Tolford, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances, Mrs. Stanley Glamkowski, and Katherine.

Contributions may be made in his name in the Hayward Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
