George J. Peissig (6 Jan 1911 – 14 Oct 1988)

George J. Peissig, 77, town of Little Black, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday at Memorial Hospital of Taylor County, Medford, where he had been a patient since Thursday.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville, with the Rev. James Blastic officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, town of Little Black.

He was born Jan. 6, 1911, in the town of Little Black, a son of the late Wenzel and Emilia Peissig. He attended Lawndale School there.

As a young man, he worked in logging camps in Michigan and Wisconsin.

He married Maida M. Carstensen Nov. 28, 1933, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nekoosa. She survives and lives in the town of Little Black.

Mr. Peissig farmed in the town of Little Black form 1938 until is retirement in 1978. The couple continued to live there. Mr. Peissig served as town supervisor from 1958-61 and again from 1967-75. He served as school treasurer on the Lawndale School Board from 1936-58. He was on the Board of Directors for the Dorchester Midland Co-op from 1961-69, serving as director for three years and president for one year. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1983.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville.

Surviving, besides his wife, are one son, Dennis of Stevens Point; and one daughter, Mrs. Carroll (Marilyn) Ross, also of Stevens Point; one brother, Albert of Medford; and four grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by five sisters, Mary, Josephine, Louise and Anna; and one brother in infancy.
