Meihak, William (13 November 1897 - 4 February 1976)

A native of the Town of Weston, William Meihak, 78, of Neillsville, died Wednesday, February 4, following a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating. Burial was in the Pine Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home.

Mr. Meihak, the son of William and Augustine Dux Meihak, was born November 13, 1897, in the Town of Weston and was educated in country schools, attending the German School in the Town of Pine Valley. His marriage to the former Clara Durst took place June 21, 1922, at the home of her parents in the Town of Hewett. Mrs. Meihak preceded her husband in death on December 16, 1972.

Mr. Meihak operated the family farm until selling it and moving to Neillsville in 1968. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Rockwood of Hayward, Mrs. Wendell (Lorraine) Storm of Sheboygan and Roger Meihak of Forest Lake, Mn.; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ritschke of Oshkosh; two brothers, Werner Meihak of Marshfield and Albert Meihak of Neillsville; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Arnold Karl, Rufus Karl, Gerald Eberhardt, Carl Storm, Art Stiemke and Donald Meihak.

The hymns “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung.

Among those attending the services were the following from out of town, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Meihak, Forest Lake, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rockwood, Hayward; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Storm, Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Werner Meihak, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Gaier and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Eckes, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Barton, Silver Lake, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rortvedt and Alvin Durst, Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kohner and Jeanene Rockwood, St. Paul, Mn.; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Nelson, Madison; Gary Buchsteiner, Watertown; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beyer, Tigerton; Harold Beyer, Stoughton; Mrs. Donald Will, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Storm, Granton.
