Greenwood Alumni Banquet (36th - June 1976)

The 36th annual Greenwood High School Alumni banquet was held in the auditorium of the school. One hundred fifty-four members attended.

Mrs. Susie Drew Dillon, class of 1924, of Pelican Rapids, Mn., gave the invocation. The welcome was given by Roger Liebzeit, class of 1955, who is the president of the Greenwood School Board. Piano music during the dinner was provided by Tom Zepaltus and Gigi Plautz, students at the high school.

The business meeting was opened by Carol Drew Turnquist. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Mercedes Meinholdt Liebzeit and the treasurer’s report by Louie Landini.

Special recognition was given to those graduates attending who were celebrating more than 50 years since graduation. Those present were, Anna Schwarze Rossman of Greenwood, Class of 1907; Floy Sloniker Horn of Chili, Class of 1909; Beatrice Howard Rieger of Chicago, Il., Class of 1909; Dr. Hale Hunt of La Crosse, Class of 1914; Helen Chadwick Behrens of Greenwood, Class of 1917; Amy Colby Lemley of West Bend, Class of 1917; Violet McCarty Farwell of Saginaw, Mi., Class of 1917; Marjorie Hawley Neverman of Joliet, Il., Class of 1920; Marian Hartson Higgins of Albuquerque, N.M., Class of 1921; Elery Moberg of Greenwood, Class of 1921; Lois Cole Johnson of Greenwood, Class of 1922; Edna Hembre Meyers of Cameron, Class of 1923; Donald Drew of Viroqua, Class of 1923; Lawrence Cox of Greenwood, Class of 1924; Susie Drew Dillion of Pelican Rapids, Mn., Class of 1924; Helen Turnquist Axelson of Loyal, Class of 1925; Harriet Verhulst Gotter of Loyal, Class of 1925; Spencer Manning of Glen Flora, Class of 1925; Art Turnquist of Greenwood, Class of 1925; and Geneva Davis Berrett of Greenwood, Class of 1925.

Recognition was given to the honored guests, the Class of 1926. They were introduced by Helen Turnquist Axelson, and those present were, Louie Behrens of Greenwood; Ernest Christie of La Crosse; Edith Stafford Churkey of Owen; Beulah Syth Cox of Greenwood; Pearl Poirer Cox of Milwaukee; Elton Dillon of Pelican Rapids, Mn.; Iola Farning of Greenwood; Orville Greene of Loyal; Olive Sherman Hoffman of Manitowoc; Ed Kuester of Greenville, Oh.; Lucille Stanley Lunka of Willard; Dorothy Beecher Schwarze of Marshfield; Wesley Schwarze of Greenwood; Louise Lenz Krubsack of Oconomowoc; Leota Wicks Buettner of Neillsville; and Gladys Palmater Weaver of California.

The Outstanding Alumni award for 1976 was presented to John D. Wuethrich of Greenwood, Class of 1928. The award was presented to him by his son-in-law, Keith Stump of Greenwood.

Musical entertainment was provided by Knute Wallin and Robin Wernberg. Mr. Wallin played the banjo and sang, and then was joined by Robin for several banjo numbers. Mr. Wallin is a teacher at the high school and Robin is a student at Marshfield.

The benediction was given by Susie Drew Dillon.

The committee for the 1977 banquet is Louis Landini, Carol Drew Turnquist, Laird Ross, Lillian Behrens Redgren and Roger Liebzeit.
