Depa, Joseph A. (5 JUN 1940 – 20 MAY 2020)

Joseph A. Depa, age 79, of DeMotte, IN, formerly of Thorp, WI, passed away at his daughter's home on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in DeMotte, IN. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Cemetery, rural Stanley, WI, with Rev. Baskaran Sandhiyagu officiating.

Joseph Alexander Depa was born on June 5, 1940, in Stanley, WI, to Paul and Anna (Posda) Depa. He was raised on the family farm, received his education in area schools and graduated from Thorp High School in 1958.. After completing high school, Joe served in the U.S. Army from December 30, 1958, until March 7, 1962. He then served in the Army Reserves until December 29, 1964. He was united in marriage to Merceda A. Haller on August 15, 1964. They moved to Des Plaines, IL where he worked as commercial painter for the local union. In 1974, they moved to St. John, IN and Joe continued to work as a painter until retiring in 2002. He resided in St. John until moving to live with his daughter in DeMotte, IN, in 2019.

He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, relaxing at his lake house in the recliner, doing yard work and football.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Suzanne (Tony) Soto of DeMotte, IN; three grandchildren: Steven (Katrice) Savvas, Nicholas Raseta and Madison Seniw; one great-grandson, Rousso Savvas; one sister, Pauline Andronowitz of Shelton, CT; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Merceda, on September 24, 1986; six brothers: Frank, Andrew, Louis, Anton, Peter and John Depa; five sisters: Marcella Kaszubowski, Juliana Wiklanski, Helen Filipek, Frances Norks and Agnes Zielke.
